NEW YORK (AP) - Villanova’s president, the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, has been elected the chairman of the Big East Conference’s board of directors, effective July 1.

The board announced the selection Monday. It recently conducted its annual spring meeting remotely.

Donohue replaces Butler president James M. Danko, who had served in the position the past two years.

The Big East also announced the formation of a conference-wide COVID-19 task force to provide guidance and develop recommendations to assist member schools in safely resuming and conducting athletics activities. Task forces members include national health experts, athletics administrators, head coaches, physicians, trainers, event/facility personnel and student-athletes.

The league also announced plans for a regionalized scheduling model for conference play in fall 2020. The changes impact men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball and field hockey. They were approved by the league’s athletic directors.
