CNN’s Van Jones and Big Bird are gearing up for a one-hour “Sesame Street” town hall on racism.
The network will air “Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism. A CNN/Sesame Street Town Hall for Kids and Families” on Saturday at 10 a.m. EDT in response to the George Floyd protests and riots.
Mr. Jones “will be joined by ’Sesame Street’ characters — including Elmo, Abby Cadabby and Rosita — and other experts answering questions submitted by families,” CNN reported Tuesday.
CNN, CNN International and CNN en Español will try to find a way to broach the subject of Floyd’s death, which happened during an arrest with former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin pinning him to the ground.
Mr. Chauvin, the white police officer who knelt on the black suspect’s neck, was arrested and faces charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter.
Former peers J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao, also involved the arrest, face charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and manslaughter.
Interested viewers can send in their questions to CNN via a form on the network’s website, provided they offer full names and phone numbers.
The town hall will also be offered on CNN.com’s homepage, CNNgo, and across mobile devices via CNN’s apps.
