OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The number of reported coronavirus cases in Oklahoma has surpassed 13,000 with more than 200 additional reported cases, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health on Monday.
The department reported 228 newly confirmed cases to bring the total to 13,172, an increase from 12,944 reported on Sunday.
The true number of cases is likely higher because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected and not feel sick.
The number of deaths remained unchanged at 385 and the department reported 9,587 people have recovered and 329 are currently hospitalized.
For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms that clear up within weeks. But for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, the highly contagious virus can cause severe symptoms and be fatal.
