FAIRFAX, Vt. (AP) - The select board in the Vermont town of Fairfax has approved a new cell tower near the village center, but not everyone is happy about it.

The board recently agreed to lease land to Verizon, allowing the company to build a new cell tower.

“One concern in Fairfax and the surrounding area and Vermont in general is the lack of communications service and lack of cell service in particular,” said Fairfax Town Manager Brad Docheff.

But Jill Decker, who lives near the approved location for the tower, says she worries it will cause more problems than it is worth.

“I think we have a nice little community with some businesses and I don’t think they need it,” Decker said.

There’s no immediate word on when the tower will be constructed.
