WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) - A woman was sexually assaulted in her apartment by an apparent stranger and officials in the Boston suburb where the attack occurred have issued a warning and stepped up patrols.
Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said the attacked happened June 13 in Waltham, Massachusetts.
She said a woman in her 50s had returned to her apartment after walking her dog late at night when she was physically and sexually assaulted over several hours by a man she did not know.
Waltham Police Chief Keith MacPherson stressed “crimes of this nature are exceedingly rare” but warned residents to stay vigilant.
Ryan said the attack is especially concerning because it appears to be random. She said residents should avoid walking alone when it’s late or dark and immediately call 911 if they feel unsafe.
No arrests or suspects have been announced and local officials are asking anyone with pertinent information to contact them.
