The Washington Wizards will sign guard Jerian Grant to replace Davis Bertans’ roster spot for when the NBA resumes near Orlando next month, according to a new report.
NBC Sports Washington reported that the Wizards are adding Grant, a 6-foot-4 guard who has spent the season playing with Washington’s G-League team, the Capital City Go Go.
The 27-year-old is the son of former Bullet and Wizard Harvey Grant, brother of Denver Nuggets forward Jerami Grant and nephew of former Chicago Bulls forward Horace Grant. Grant was born in Silver Spring and played at DeMatha High before going to Notre Dame.
The Wizards had an extra roster spot after it was reported Bertans will not play next month when the season relaunches. In the last year of his contract, the Latvian sharpshooter stands to gain millions in free agency and did not want to risk his health by playing in a pandemic.
Any team that has a player withdraw will have the option to sign a replacement player.
Despite spending the year with the Go-Go, Grant has NBA experience and has spent time with the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic. He’s averaged 6.1 points and 2.9 assists per game across four seasons. With the Go-Go, Grant scored 16.3 points and dished 5.9 assists per game this season.
The NBA season is scheduled to restart July 30.
