MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Urging Vermonters to fill out their census forms, Gov. Phil Scott said an accurate accounting of the state’s population is critical to making sure the state receives the right amount of federal funding, particularly in its recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
Only about half of Vermonters have completed the Census form so far, ranking the state among the lowest in the country for its response rate at 47th, Scott said Wednesday.
“As we face a global pandemic and the economic crises that follow making sure we get every dollar of federal relief we can is so important to our recovery,” he said. “And it’s not just for disaster relief. It’s infrastructure projects, school lunch programs and so much more.”
Scott asked Vermonters to take five minutes to fill out the form online at 2020census.gov or by phone at 844-330-2020.
