JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - Three people have been charged for allegedly stealing $50,000 in pension funds from two New Jersey factories, prosecutors said.

The prosecutor’s office’s Special Investigations Unit announced Monday that it arrested Francisco Jara, 63, Elkin Garcia, 55, and Marta Garay, 52, for an alleged scheme to cash pension checks and keep some of the money, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

Suarez said that from June 2017 to July 2019, the trio targeted Star Snacks Company in Jersey City and Gel Spice Company in Bayonne employees.

The three men will appear in court on July 7 to face theft and conspiracy charges.
