CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Artists in Charlotte repaired the “Black Lives Matter” mural in the city after it was damaged by a driver who left tire marks on it.
No arrests have been made since police began investigating the vandalism discovered Friday, but 16 artists who created the pavement art came out Sunday to restore their works just six days after they were first painted, news outlets reported.
“If it agitated them, that’s the kind of people we need to inform and educate,” artist Kiana Mui told The Charlotte Observer.
The artwork, with each letter spelling out Black Lives Matter in a different theme, has quickly become a focus of political gatherings in the city. “It won’t be ruined,” Mui said. “It’s definitely going to be here and part of history for Charlotte.”
