Major League Baseball revealed its schedule for the 60-game 2020 season Monday evening, leading off with the Washington Nationals hosting the New York Yankees on July 23 in primetime on ESPN.
The Yankees-Nationals opening game, previously reported by the Associated Press, pits the defending World Series champions against the sport’s most recognizable brand in the nation’s capital to open the unusual, pandemic-shortened season.
It’s quite possible that Max Scherzer will start that game for the Nationals opposite new Yankees signing Gerrit Cole — who faced the Nationals in the 2019 World Series while playing for Houston.
The Nationals’ schedule features two 10-game road trips, one in mid-August and the other stretching from late August into September, while their two longest homestands are just seven games.
Fans are not allowed in the stands yet, but that may change if COVID-19 numbers in the U.S. drop dramatically this summer. With that in mind, here are Washington’s dates, times and opponents for all 60 games (all times p.m.):
