EDWARDS, Miss. (AP) - After three Mississippi police officers tested positive for coronavirus in one town, one has died.
Sgt. Kelvin Mixon was on the police force in Edwards, Mississippi, for more than 20 years, WJTV reports. A wreath is now resting in front of the police station in his honor.
“This virus is real and it cut his life short and ended his career too soon,” Police Chief Terence Crump told the television station.
Mayor Marcus Wallace said Mixon watched over the town with care.
“He would do whatever needed to be done to make sure we were good,” Wallace told WJTV. “He was definitely a community policeman.”
The town of Edwards has a population of around 1,000 and is about two miles (3.2 kilometers) west of Jackson.
