Coaches and players from the Utah Jazz and New Orleans Pelicans took a knee during the national anthem Thursday before tip-off of the first game of the NBA’s restart inside Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
Each player and coach wore “Black Lives Matter” shirts. They also took the knee near the “Black Lives Matter” signage that has been painted on the court.
Even the game’s referees joined in kneeling.
The act was part of the NBA’s social justice movement as players and coaches speak out against police brutality and racial injustice in the wake of George Floyd’s death.
The NBA’s season halted in March due to the coronavirus.
