Amid growing concern over the health risks of attending football games this year, Washington is offering full refunds to FedEx Field season-ticket holders.
In a letter to fans Tuesday, the NFL franchise — going by the temporary “Washington Football Team” after discarding “Redskins” as racially insensitive — said ticket-holders can either get a full refund or hang on to the tickets and use them for the 2021 season.
Terry Bateman, the franchise’s new chief marketing officer, told multiple outlets last week that the team plans on having a limited number of fans at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland — though he added the team was still working through protocols with local officials.
On Tuesday, the team detailed new health and safety procedures for fans planning on attending games. Fans, for instance, will have to wear a mask, and there will be hand sanitizer stations installed throughout the stadium. The team also said it will be implementing mobile-only ticketing in 2020.
“There will be several interactive webinars to walk members through how to access their tickets electronically,” the team said in a press release.
Washington is the latest team around the NFL to offer refunds. Other clubs like Baltimore and San Francisco have issued similar releases as the league grapples with the pandemic.
