Washington Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg is considered day-to-day after missing Saturday’s game with a nerve issue, and the team believes he could be ready for his next scheduled start.

Strasburg was a late scratch for Saturday’s game against the New York Yankees due to what he described as a nerve impingement in his right wrist affecting him from his wrist to his thumb. Strasburg pitches right-handed.

“It got to the point where I didn’t have the same feeling in my hand holding the ball,” Strasburg said Saturday, “and it was affecting my ability to command the baseball the way I’m accustomed to.”

Before Sunday’s game, manager Dave Martinez said Strasburg, the 2019 World Series MVP, told him the night before that his hand was already starting to feel better. He added Strasburg could play catch Monday as he ramps back up to play.

Strasburg’s next turn in the rotation could come Wednesday or Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Erick Fedde replaced Strasburg for Saturday’s game and Washington went on to beat the Yankees, 9-2.
