ELLISVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Gov. Tate Reeves on Thursday appointed a new chancery court judge for Jones and Wayne counties in south Mississippi.
Billie Graham has been a Jones County Justice Court judge since 2012. She also has extensive experience of practicing law in chancery courts, including representing the legal interests of children in custody cases.
Graham earned her law degree from the University of Mississippi. In private law practice, she has had a primary focus on divorce, child custody and support, contempt and modification cases.
“Billie has been and continues to be a leader in family law in our state, fighting for our children and families for decades,” Reeves said in a news release.
Graham said in the release that she’s honored to be chosen.
“It’s extremely important to the people of Jones and Wayne Counties, and I pledge to do my very best for them,” she said.
Graham succeeds Franklin C. McKenzie Jr. of Laurel, who retired June 30. He was first elected as a 19th District Chancery Court judge in 1994 and took office in 1995.
