FedEx informed the Washington Redskins last week that unless the team changes its name, it will move signage from the team’s stadium in Landover, Maryland, after the 2020 season, according to a new report.

The Washington Post reported FedEx, the team’s naming rights partner, threatened to end the agreement six years early if Washington does not comply. In 1999, FedEx agreed to a 27-year, $205 million deal to become the team’s major sponsor.

The Redskins, of course, play at FedEx Field.

The Post reported that in a two-page letter, the shipping company does not use the term “Redskins” and emphasized the risks the team’s name could harm FedEx’s brand reputation. The letter was sent on July 2, the same day that FedEx confirmed publicly it had asked the Redskins to change their name.

A day later, the Redskins announced they would conduct a “thorough review” of their name.
