ELMORE, Ala. (AP) - Four people face drug charges after being arrested while visiting an Alabama prison, authorities said.
A statement from the Department of Corrections said the four were taken into custody at Elmore prison on Saturday.
Dogs are used to sniff for drugs as visitors enter the prison area, and the agency said canines alerted on three cars. Searches discovered drugs in each vehicle, resulting in arrests. Another person was arrested after officers found marijuana in his pocket during a search.
Kenyatta Graham, 41, of Camp Hill; Adriana Halkias, 19, of Madison; and Norman Mangione, 67, of Sylacauga were charged with marijuana possession, the department said. Aaliyah Danner, 22, of Montgomery was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
It was unclear Tuesday whether any of the four had lawyers to speak on their behalf. Each was taken to the county jail.
The department is trying to reduce drugs and other contraband inside Alabama prisons following a series of problems including killings and other violence at multiple lockups.
