OPINION:
Rose McGowan, Hollywood actress, model, author and lately, political activist, has taken to Twitter Extreme to call out America as the evil empire to Iran’s blooming innocence, outright apologizing to the terrorist regime for President Donald Trump’s takedown of the Revolutionary Guard’s Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
“Charmed,” I’m sure. Ba-da-dum. Seriously, though, this is a woman — a woman who used to play a character on the WB series “Charmed” — who is siding with Iran over America, while trying to pretend she’s not. And the latest is she is digging in deeper on that view.
“Dear #Iran,” McGowan first wrote on Twitter, “The USA has disrespected your country, your flag, your people. 52% of us humbly apologize. We want peace with your nation. We are being held hostage by a terrorist regime. We do not know how to escape. Please do not kill us. #Soleimani.”
Well here’s a thought: America’s exit borders are quite open. Those who would like to “escape” America can do so with remarkably free ease. Perhaps McGowan would like to take a trot over to Iran and issue a mea culpa on behalf of America directly to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei? He’d probably take the visit. The regime oh so loves and respects the womenfolk, right?
It’s bad enough McGowan made the initial tweet. But then she went on to defend it, to double down on it, to argue with her critics.
“It is only logical to appeal to Iran’s pride by apologizing,” she tweeted, in answer to one critic.
“The United States is morally corrupt and acts illegally,” she wrote.
“Of course #Soleimani was an evil man who did evil things. But at this moment is not the [f-ing] point,” she wrote.
“I do not side with Iran, but I most definitely do not side with the USA,” she wrote.
“[F—] your freedom and shove it up your #MAGA ass,” she wrote.
“Thanks a lot, d—head @realDonaldTrump,” she wrote.
“Eat [sh—],” she wrote.
And then this: “I’m a registered Republican in California. I loathe the Clintons. I have Trump. I will not vote Republican, but I cannot vote Democrat. I’d rather know what evil I’m getting, so I’ll go Republican” — which was followed by this: “I will never vote Republican. I want the Democrats to win because we are less likely to die. I am a conscientious objector to the USA, it’s policies, lies, corruption, nationalism, racism, and deep misogyny. It is our right and duty as citizens to dissent.”
There’s a lot to unravel there — including a couple of conflicting 180-degree statements. But McGowan’s theme is this: America sucks. Iran doesn’t.
So why stay in America?
“Ok, so I freaked out because we may have any impending war,” she ultimately wrote on Twitter. “Sometimes it’s okay to freak out on those in power. It’s our right. That is what so many Brave soldiers have fought for. That is democracy. I do not want any more American soldiers killed. That’s it.”
Fine. Dandy. But that’s not what McGowan said. What McGowan said was America was a terrible country, Republicans and Democrats were filled with terrible people, Iran’s Soleimani was admittedly “evil” — but that nonetheless, the United States, in comparison, was worse.
On that: McGowan is dismissed. She has full permission to go to Iran and live.
