JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Gov.-elect Tate Reeves said Monday that he will keep the director of Mississippi’s Medicaid program.
Drew Snyder was appointed to the post two years ago by Republican Gov. Phil Bryant. Snyder is an attorney who had worked as an assistant secretary of state.
“I know what it means to be the youngest in a leadership position and step up for Mississippi,” Reeves said on Twitter. “Two years ago, Drew Snyder did just that.”
Medicaid is a government health insurance program for the needy. It is paid by federal and state tax dollars.
The Mississippi Division of Medicaid has about 900 employees, and about 672,000 people are covered by the program.
Reeves will be inaugurated as governor on Jan. 14, and he has made several announcements in the past two weeks about leadership of state agencies. Reeves is keeping the director of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. He will find new leaders for Mississippi Development Authority, the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Corrections.
