RUSSELL, Kan. (AP) - A 72-year-old man has died after falling through ice while fishing over the weekend.

The Russell County Sheriff’s office said in a news release that emergency crews were sent to an area south of Russell Saturday afternoon after a report that fisherman had fallen through the ice.

The Hays Post reports James Schoenberger, of Russell, was recovered from the water and taken to Russell Regional Hospital where he later died.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks conducted a boat accident investigation as part of the man’s death.
