BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - The police department in Connecticut’s largest city is mourning the sudden loss of a veteran officer who had received several decorations during his career.
Bridgeport Police Officer Jarah Matthews-Dixon in Stamford over the weekend, city officials told the Connecticut Post.
“Matthews-Dixon was a great officer, a kind person and will he will surely be missed,” Chief Armando Perez said in a statement.
The circumstances of his death were not disclosed.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Officer Matthews-Dixon at this time, along with all of his brothers and sisters of the Bridgeport Police Department,” Mayor Joe Ganim said in a statement.
Matthews-Dixon had previously received the Distinguished Service Medal and the Medal of Merit. In 2018, he also received the Courage of CT award from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees for helping apprehend suspects investigators said were planning an arson and murder.
He has been a city officer since 2008.
Matthews-Dixon was most recently assigned to the city Fusion Center.
