RUSTBURG, Va. (AP) - A Virginia man who admitted to killing his 22-year-old girlfriend in what prosecutors said was a fit of jealous rage has been sentenced to life in prison.

Marquie Brandon Williams, 27, pleaded guilty last year to charges of first-degree murder, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and grand larceny in the April 2018 shooting death of Lisa Henderson of Appomattox.

A judge imposed the life sentence Friday after testimony from investigators and members of Henderson’s family, The News & Advance reported.

Williams quietly apologized to Henderson’s family, according to the newspaper, and the sound of tears filled the gallery as he was escorted out of the courtroom.

Prosecutors described Henderson’s death as a “cold-blooded execution” after Williams learned Henderson had spoken with another man on the phone.

“He took her away in the most calculated way possible. He should never get out of prison,” Campbell County Commonwealth’s Attorney Paul McAndrews said.

A friend of Williams’ who has also pleaded guilty to charges in connection with the death still faces sentencing.
