BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) - A Maine city’s historic clock tower is one step closer to its long-awaited restoration.

The 140-year-old Biddeford Mills Clock Tower was moved to a new location on Friday where it can be restored, the Portland Press Herald reported.

The octagonal clock tower once sat atop the Lincoln Mill when it was removed about 13 years ago. It remained on the ground next to the mill for the next seven years.

A group of volunteers called the Friends of the Historic Lincoln Mill Clock Tower have been working to restore the structure and install it as a part of the city’s new RiverWalk project. The group estimates it will need to raise about $275,000 to make that plan a reality.

Maine Preservation, a historic preservation group, included the clock tower on its list of most endangered Maine places in 2014.
