OPINION:
America was built on a foundation of Judeo-Christian principles, rooted on virtues and morals and values taken straight out of the Bible — and here we are, circa 2020, watching what has to be one of the most vicious take-downs of a president in U.S. history by people who have to be among some of the most vicious, angry, lying political partisans in modern times.
It seems fitting to look to God’s Word for insight.
And for sure, we’re living in John 16 times.
From Jesus, to his disciples: “’I have said all this to you to keep you from falling away. They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. And they will do this because they have not known the Father, nor me. But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you of them.’”
How better to analyze what’s taking place on Capitol Hill right now.
The impeachment of President Donald Trump started before he even officially took office, with far-leftists like Rep. Maxine Waters calling for his removal before he even had a chance to commit an impeachable offense — and then lying about it.
“More than perhaps any member of Congress, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., has discussed the possibility of impeaching President Donald Trump. So it was a bit of a surprise to hear her say she has ’not called for impeachment’ of Trump during a recent interview on MSNBC,” PolitiFact wrote in April of 2017, giving her a “Pants On Fire!” rating for her deceptions.
So it’s gone the entire impeachment walk. Democrats have lied; Democrats’ friends in the media have lied; pundits on national TV carrying the Democrats’ water have lied; intelligence and law enforcement agents who are supposed to be above partisanship, above politics, have lied.
And a tense nation has watched as the nonstop political battles have torn and frayed, separated not united.
Meanwhile, Democrats continue to claim it’s all for the good of the nation — that impeachment and removal are necessary in order to save the Constitution, uphold rule of law, restore security and order to the people. Hogwash. Lies and hogwash.
“The republic for which it stands is what we are here to talk about today,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in December, while opening debate on impeachment.
Let the flag-waving begin. Pelosi, the same woman who brought us socialist Obamacare, the same woman who couldn’t believe Trump would call murderous MS-13 gang members “animals,” the same woman who claims Catholicism while openly advocating for abortion, the same woman who allows socialists to take over her party — all of sudden this same woman stands before America and lectures about a republic, and about Founding Fathers and honor and integrity, alongside an image of the America flag, no less.
The gall of it all.
Reps. Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler are cut from the same shameful cloth.
They have neither lick nor shred of evidence to impeach this president, and they know it, moving from one accusation to another with breathtakingly psychopathic ease, from Russia collusion to Ukraine quid pro quo all in the span of just a few months, relying solely on lies, deceptions, smoke and mirrors and distractions to keep their accusations afloat in the press.
Like Pelosi, they say it’s all for the good of the country, the security of the nation.
The fate of the great American republic.
They’re beacons of truth, on missions from God, sent from above to save us all from that dastardly devilish Donald Trump. Right?
Only a similarly dark heart and clouded mind could agree.
Not just Democratic Party leadership, but the entire left has engaged in hefty, heavy and continuously hateful attacks against Trump — against Trump supporters, against U.S.-loving patriotic, sovereign citizens, against “deplorables” — since Day One of his administration. Since before Day One. Since he dared beat all the Republicans in the primary and then the Democrats’ heir apparent, Hillary Clinton. That’s a fact.
The political turmoil has been upsetting, to say the least.
But for those of faith, for followers of Jesus, this is all simply a sign of biblical times — and, by way of comfort, an opportunity to stretch the faith.
“The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, every man to his home … I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace,” Jesus continues in John 16. “In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
It’s all part of the grander plan.
Even the lies of impeachment are all part of a grander plan.
