JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A 13-year-old Mississippi girl is accused of repeatedly stabbing her 15-year-old brother on News Year’s Day in an argument over fireworks, during a holiday period in which multiple children were injured in the state’s capital city, Jackson police told news outlets.

The boy was in critical condition after suffering multiple stab wounds to his upper body, Jackson police spokesman Sam Brown confirmed. Police said the girl was detained and the case remains under investigation. Neither the suspect nor the victim are being identified because they are underage.

Multiple other children were injured in Jackson on New Year’s Eve, The Clarion Ledger reports. On Tuesday evening, a 1-year-old and a 13-year-old were shot while sitting in the back of a car in what Brown described during a news conference as a “targeted” drive-by. The 1-year-old remains in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head, and the 13-year-old suffered a bullet wound to her arm. In a separate incident later that night, a juvenile victim who police described on Twitter as a “small child” was shot in the foot by a bullet while outside lighting off fireworks.

Police haven’t said if arrests have been made in any of the incidents.
