WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - The Delaware State Police want to know who used someone else’s Instagram account to post a school shooting threat.
The agency determined that a message threatening to “shoot up” Wilmington’s Skyline Middle School wasn’t credible, but investigators are still searching for the person who posted the message Sunday evening, Public Information Officer Michael Austin wrote in a statement on Monday.
After the Instagram message began circulating online, investigators contacted the account owner, but determined he hadn’t posted the threat and didn’t have the phone it was posted from. The post was made “without the subject’s knowledge or his authorization,” the agency said.
The State Police said the phone is “currently unaccounted for.” It’s unclear if the account holder is a student at the school.
Delaware State Police stationed troopers at both Skyline and nearby Heritage Elementary School in Pike Creek on Monday. Austin said there were no issues at the school, but that the agency is still “actively” investigating.
