LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union has announced the hiring of an Omaha attorney as its new legal director.

Adam Sipple will lead the state ACLU’s legal program, replacing Amy Miller, who resigned in November. Before joining the ACLU, Sipple had spent 20 years as a civil rights and criminal defense litigator for the firm of Johnson & Mock of Omaha.

Sipple said he’s looking forward to handling complex litigation for the civil rights group, which in recent years has tackled criminal justice and prison reform, reproductive issues, LGBTQ equality and racial justice, among other things.

“Throughout my career, the most satisfying moments have followed vindication of a client’s fundamental constitutional rights against overreaching state actors,” Sipple said.

ACLU Nebraska Executive Director Danielle Conrad said she expects Sipple’s addition to boost the program.

“Adam has a clear track record as a successful litigator in complex matters where the stakes are highest and where fair application of the law is most important,” Conrad said.
