SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police officers shot and killed an armed man as they responded to a report of a possible home invasion, Georgia authorities said Friday.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a news release that preliminary information indicates Deandre Lee Seaborough-Patterson, 22, pointed a gun at Savannah police officers before they shot him.
The officers were responding Thursday to a call from a woman saying someone was trying to break into her home. The GBI said officers found Patterson in the yard outside the home with a gun in his hand and he refused orders to drop the weapon.
None of the responding police officers was injured.
Savannah police called the GBI to investigate, which is customary in shootings involving police in Georgia.
The GBI said the Savannah case is the 11th officer-involved shooting the agency has been called to investigate since Jan. 1.
