BOSTON (AP) - Nine people were screened at Boston’s Logan International Airport for a new virus that has sickened hundreds of people, according to the Massachusetts Port Authority.
The passengers arrived on a Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong on Wednesday night. They were told to remain on board while they were evaluated by Boston medics and a nurse who was in contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, WHDH-TV reported.
No signs of sickness were detected, and all passengers were allowed to travel to their final destinations.
The newly discovered coronavirus that originated in Wuhan, China, has infected close to 600 people and killed 17. A growing list of places outside of mainland China have reported cases, including Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
The first case of the virus in the U.S. was confirmed Tuesday in Washington state.
The U.S. has said it plans to route all Wuhan-originating airline passengers to five airports where health screenings have begun or will begin later this week - New York’s Kennedy airport, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Atlanta.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health released a clinical advisory Wednesday saying they had “no immediate plans to begin screening” at Logan airport.
