HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Hartford’s mayor wants the city’s interim police chief to get the job on a permanent basis.

Mayor Luke Bronin on Wednesday nominated Interim Police Chief Jason Thody for the position. The nomination is subject to confirmation by the city council. Bronin said a town hall meeting to discuss his nomination will be held next week.

Continuity of leadership would be best for the department and city, Bronin said.

“I’ve worked closely with Interim Chief Thody over the past nine months, and I’ve seen his willingness to tackle tough issues openly and honestly, his commitment to building a culture of professionalism and accountability, and most of all, his personal commitment to the Hartford community and to the spirit of community policing,” Bronin said in a statement.

Thody has spent his entire professional career with the Hartford Police Department starting as a cadet in 1996. He was appointed interim chief in April when former Chief David Rosado took a private sector job.

“I’ve spent my entire adult life proudly serving the city of Hartford, and it would be the honor of a lifetime to lead our police department,” Thody said in a statement.
