PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Two people have died after they were unable to escape a house fire in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, according to Michigan State Police.

The fire was reported Saturday morning in Portage Township, according to MLive.com. Several fire departments responded to the fire.

“Upon arriving on scene, the troopers discovered that fire department officials had located two deceased residents inside the home,” state police said.

The victims’ names haven’t been released.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
