AVALON, Pa. (AP) - A public defender in Allegheny County stabbed her fiance, who is a fellow public defender, after a night of drinking earlier this week, police said.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Elizabeth LaForgia, 31, was charged by police in Avalon with aggravated assault and other offense for allegedly stabbing George Saba with a 12-inch kitchen knife and kicking him in the crotch.

The county human resources department told the paper their employment status is being reviewed.

LaForgia’s defense attorney Brent McCune told the Post-Gazette that she was defending herself and that alcohol was involved. Saba declined comment, the paper said.

Police said Saba called 911 after 11 p.m. Tuesday, and they found Saba with a forearm cut and blood on his clothes, blood on a knife and blood on the floor of the dining and living rooms. He declined medical treatment.
