PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A series of shootings in Philadelphia has left one man dead and five other people hospitalized, including some in critical condition, authorities said.

The shootings occurred over a two-hour period on Wednesday night, starting around 5 p.m. when two men were shot on a city street. One man was shot in the hip while the other was struck in the chest, and both remained hospitalized Thursday.

Nearly 20 minutes later, two men and a teenager were wounded in another street shooting that police say was captured on video. A 20-year-old man who was shot multiple times later died from his injuries, while a 16-year-old boy and a 25-year-old man were both hospitalized in critical condition.

A 21-year-old man was then shot multiple times in the legs around 6:45 p.m. and was hospitalized in stable condition.

The homicide rate in Philadelphia has surged this month, with more than 20 murders so far.

It does not appear that any of the shootings were connected, authorities said, The names of the victims and possible motives for the shootings were not disclosed,
