Chad Johnson to try out for XFL as kicker

Chad Johnson is attempting a comeback to professional football. But this time, it’s at a different position. 

The former Pro Bowl wide receiver will try out for the XFL — as a kicker.

Johnson, 42, played 11 seasons in the NFL at wideout, but has experience kicking. In the 2009 preseason, Johnson attempted — and made — an extra point attempt: 

On Tuesday, Johnson, who last played in the NFL during the 2011 season, tweeted he will tryout for the XFL in Houston next Monday:

The opportunity to kick in the XFL has presented itself, i must tryout Monday in Houston, I’m excited as hell & I’m sure all will go well 🙏🏿

The XFL is set to kickoff Feb. 8. The league will not have extra point attempts and kickoffs will be placed farther back than the NFL. 

Last month, Johnson uploaded a video to Instagram that showed him working on making field goals.

Johnson’s kicking talents also have led him to the world of soccer. During the 2011 lockout, Johnson had a brief stay with Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City, and in 2018 he played for Boca Raton FC, a fourth-tier professional club.
