T.J. Oshie has achieved many things in his playing career, including a Stanley Cup and a moment in the Olympic spotlight, but on Saturday he checked off something he’d never accomplished before.
Oshie was named to his first NHL All-Star Game, as the Washington Capitals forward won the “Last Man In” Vote for the Metropolitan Division as decided on by the fans.
Oshie has played in all 45 games for Washington so far and is the team’s third-leading goal-scorer with 18.
The All-Star Game will be played Jan. 25 in St. Louis, the city Oshie spent the first seven years of his NHL career with the Blues.
“It feels good,” Oshie said of the selection Saturday after the Capitals lost to the Devils. “I think it makes it a little bit more special that it’s voted on by the fans. Always had a lot of really great support throughout my career here and in St. Louis especially. So to be going back to St. Louis, there is a pretty cool story.”
Oshie joins Capitals teammates John Carlson and Braden Holtby on the team. Alex Ovechkin was named the Metropolitan team’s captain, but decided to skip the festivities for the second straight year to rest and recover. He’ll serve a one-game suspension as a result.
Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner, Blues winger David Perron and Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes won the vote in their respective divisions.
