MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Montana authorities have confirmed dozens of people were evacuated from a chairlift at Montana Snowbowl after an empty chair separated from the cable.
Two skiers had just gotten off the chair when it caught on part of the lift and completely ripped off the cable, the Missoulian reported.
No one was injured.
Some skiers were evacuated by ropes and harnesses in chairs as high as 30 feet (9 meters) off the ground, authorities said.
No other information was immediately available.
A similar incident occurred in 2011 when a double-seat chair struck a lift operator in the loading zone causing the chair to swing off the same lift cable and land in the snow, authorities said.
