BOSTON (AP) - People who are experiencing homelessness and others working to end it are gathering in downtown Boston on Sunday to connect and raise awareness of the problem.

The 4th annual Winter Walk for Homelessness begins at 9 a.m. at Copley Plaza. Participants will walk a 2-mile route through the city, with a community breakfast to follow.

Organizers say homelessness is more commonplace than many people realize in Boston, where housing costs are among the highest in the nation. They say the goal of the walk is to “bring together participants who are housed and those experiencing homelessness to share their stories.”

Individuals who have experienced homelessness will address the crowd. Other speakers will include Boston City Councilor Annissa Essaibi-George; the Rev. Laura Everett, executive director of the Massachusetts Council of Churches; and Jim O’Connell of Boston’s Health Care for the Homeless program.
