NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Several buildings on the campus of a university in New Orleans were evacuated Friday morning after a contractor struck a natural gas line, causing a major leak, the university said.
Dillard University’s said in a Twitter post that the evacuation was called off once the leak was shut down. New Orleans firefighters and workers from the Entergy utility company were on the scene of the leak.
The leak and evacuation order were reported shortly before 10 a.m. and the university announced that the evacuation was over within an hour.
There were no reports of injuries.
Dillard is a 150-year-old historically black university in New Orleans’ Gentilly neighborhood. More than 1,200 students are currently enrolled, according to its website.
