OXFORD, Ohio (AP) - Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine will be this spring’s commencement speaker for Miami University, his alma mater.
Miami President Gregory Crawford made the announcement Wednesday. The school’s ceremony is scheduled May 16 at Yager Stadium in Oxford.
The first-term Republican governor is a 1969 graduate of the public university in southwest Ohio. He and his wife Frances had what’s called “a Miami merger” by marrying in 1967, when both were Miami students. Four of their eight children are Miami alums.
A longtime prosecutor in Greene County, DeWine went on to serve as a congressman, lieutenant governor, U.S. senator and Ohio attorney general before his 2018 election to become Ohio’s 70th governor.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Miami and a juris doctor degree from Ohio Northern University’s College of Law in 1972.
