DOVER, Del. (AP) - A state panel is considering a health care company’s request to add 52 beds to a nursing home facility in Wilmington.

Cadia Healthcare is seeking permission to expand its existing 130-bed Pike Creek facility on Three Little Bakers Boulevard.

The project would add about 53,000 square feet to the current 63,000 square-foot facility at a cost of about $14 million.

Among the issues the Delaware Health Resources Board will consider at Thursday’s meeting are the need of the population for the proposed project and the availability of less costly or more effective alternatives, including the use of resources located outside Delaware.

Officials also will examine the relationship of the proposal to the existing health care delivery system in the area and anticipated effects on health care quality and costs.
