OPINION:
There are some certainties in life: Death, taxes and Rush Limbaugh on the air each weekday from noon to three. For more than three decades, Mr. Limbaugh, a Missouri native turned New Yorker turned Floridian, has been a fixture of American life.
Part broadcaster, part comedian and part political philosopher, Mr. Limbaugh has had a singular effect on American political life. He brought conservatism to mainstream America at a time when liberalism was the dominant ideology — and had fun doing it. A prodigious talent, Mr. Limbaugh has overcome obstacle after obstacle throughout the course of his career. The man even went deaf yet continued broadcasting a daily radio show.
We were sad to learn that “El Rushbo,” as he is affectionately known by his millions of fans, now faces his toughest obstacle yet. Mr. Limbaugh, famous for his love of cigars, has been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer, he announced on his radio show on Monday. He plans to undergo treatment. We wish him well and urge him a speedy and painless recovery.
