After an investigation, the Philadelphia Police Department determined that Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty did not physically assault a 13-year-old boy.
A Flyers fan accused the man in the Gritty costume of punching his 13-year-old son in the back after they took part in a photo shoot with the mascot at the Wells Fargo Center, the Flyers’ home arena. He claimed that the boy needed medical attention after being hit.
When the news broke weeks ago, the Flyers released a statement saying they conducted their own investigation and “found nothing to support this claim.”
Neither did local police, it was announced Monday.
“An investigation of the incident was conducted by the South Detective Division,” police said in a news release. “That investigation, which has been completed and is no longer active, determined that the actions of the individual portraying the Flyers’ mascot did not constitute physical assault as alleged.”
