A family member of a suburban Seattle high school staffer has tested negative for coronavirus after the school was shut for a second day due to concerns about the new virus that started in China.

The Snohomish Health District said Friday the person who became ill after international travel and had been quarantined does not have the virus.

Northshore School District Superintendent Michelle Reid had said in a letter to parents that Bothell High School would remain closed while the district waited for the results. Reid said the school staffer was not sick, but has been in self-quarantine at home.

Reid said crews cleaned and disinfected a large portion of the campus Thursday and that another day of no class would allow crews to clean the entire school by next week.

The local health department, Public Health Seattle & King County, said in a statement Thursday that the closure wasn’t needed.

Bothell is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Seattle.
