TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - City leaders in Tupelo largely support a proposal from Mayor Jason Shelton’s administration to create crews of temporary workers to pick up litter throughout the city.

Some expressed concerns over hourly wages for the workers, The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports.

Members of the Tupelo City Council this week heard from the key figures that would help implement what city officials are calling “Project Solution.”

It involves a public-private partnership between the city and the local staffing agency Express Employment Services.

The agency would hire the employees, and the workers would be supervised by a municipal court official.
