INDIANAPOLIS — The Washington Redskins will meet with LSU’s Joe Burrow and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, two of the top quarterbacks in this year’s class, as they prepare for the NFL draft in April.
Redskins coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday he had already talked with Tagovailoa and plans to bring the quarterback in for a formal interview. He then added Washington also plans to visit with Burrow, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner.
The Redskins hold the No. 2 pick in this year’s draft and despite having 2019 first-rounder Dwayne Haskins on the roster, Rivera said nothing is off the table in terms of possibilities at the position.
That includes using the second overall pick to draft a quarterback.
“No, talking to Tua is you talk to Tua,” Rivera said when asked if the team’s talking with Tagovailoa was just a matter of due diligence. which I’ve had an opportunity to (do). “Again as I said, everything, guys, is an option. We’re not closing the door on anything. One of the things Kyle and I talked about is we have to go through this process.
“Because you don’t know. You don’t know what’s going to happen in front of you. You don’t know what’s going to happen with you. … Tua’s one of the guys we’re bringing in, just so everybody knows. We’re bringing in Burrow, we’re bringing in Tua.”
Rivera said they would work out both quarterbacks.
“That’s just the way it is,” Rivera said. “You just don’t know. We’re going to prepare. We’re going to get ourselves ready. … We’re going to look at everybody.”
