Two weeks after the Washington Redskins released Josh Norman, Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane said his team has talked with the free agent cornerback.
Beane worked in football operations with the Carolina Panthers while Norman was there, and Bills coach Sean McDermott was Norman’s defensive coordinator in Carolina.
The Bills, like the Redskins, also had interest in another former Panther, tight end Greg Olsen, before Olsen ultimately chose to sign with the Seattle Seahawks.
“We have looked into (Norman) and even talked to him,” Beane told the team’s website. “Nothing more than that. I’m sure he may have some other teams that he’s looking at beyond Buffalo. Probably a similar situation to Greg Olsen, he’s in a spot where he’ll be able to choose where he wants to go. I don’t know what his plan will be of whether we’ll come to any type of agreement.”
The Redskins freed up $12.5 million in cap space by releasing Norman, 32, on Feb. 14 before the final year of his contract. Norman started off hot for Washington in 2016 but his production dropped off after that, and Pro Football Focus graded him as one of the league’s worst cornerbacks in 2019.
The Redskins benched Norman in late November and he saw just 10 defensive snaps in the final seven weeks of the season, even as other corners on the team went down with injuries.
