DOVER, Del. (AP) - A Delaware police officer has resigned after being convicted of vehicular homicide.

A spokesman for the Dover police department says Frederick Pierce submitted his resignation Monday, three days after being found guilty of causing a multiple-vehicle crash that left a woman dead and a UPS driver injured.

Pierce had been on unpaid administrative leave since being indicted last June.

Pierce was convicted Friday of second-degree vehicular homicide, third-degree vehicular assault, speeding and using a cell phone while driving. Authorities say Pierce was driving at 84 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone just before the crash. The jury declined to convict him on the more serious charge of manslaughter.

Pierce is scheduled to be sentenced on April 30. He faces up to eight years in prison on the homicide charge and up to six months behind bars for vehicular assault

The September 2018 crash killed 44-year-old Catina Isaacs. Pierce was off duty at the time and driving his own vehicle.
