ESPN’s traveling “College GameDay” program will come to College Park, Maryland, for the first time in 15 years.
The college basketball pregame show featuring Rece Davis, Jay Bilas, LaPhonso Ellis and Seth Greenberg will be produced at the University of Maryland on Saturday, Feb. 29, when the Terrapins host Michigan State.
It’s the Terrapins’ fourth time appearing and the second time hosting the program, the first since the show’s debut year, 2005. Maryland, then an ACC program three years removed from a national title, beat Duke 99-92 that day.
“College GameDay” will highlight the same matchup for the second time in three weeks. The show went to Michigan State on Feb. 15 when the Spartans hosted Maryland, a game Maryland won, 67-60.
The Xfinity Center will open to students and the general public at 9:30 a.m. for the show, which airs 11 a.m. to noon. Admission and parking are free.
“We are thrilled to have been selected to host ESPN College GameDay next week,” Maryland coach Mark Turgeon said in a statement. “It will be an incredible day for our program, fans and community. We can’t wait to show Rece, Jay, Seth, LaPhonso and the rest of the crew what College Park is all about!”
The game itself will tip off at 8 p.m. on ESPN and is already sold out.
Maryland (22-4, 10-3), currently ranked 7th in the country in the Associated Press poll, leads the Big Ten by two games entering the weekend. Michigan State is unranked following last week’s loss to the Terrapins, but is tied for third place in the conference.
The program announced it will host the show with a video featuring senior Anthony Cowan and a group of cheering students:
