Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named Most Valuable Player for Super Bowl LIV.

Mahomes completed 26 of 42 for 286 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He added 29 rushing yards and a touchdown scramble early in the game.

At 24, Mahomes is the youngest player to earn both league MVP and Super Bowl MVP honors. He won MVP for the 2018 season, his first as a full-time starter.

“Something I’ve wanted to say my whole life,” Mahomes said on the Fox telecast. “I’m going to Disney World!”

Mahomes ran in on an option from the 1-yard line on the Chiefs’ first drive to get them on the board. But he had some uncharacteristic struggles in the middle of the game, throwing the first two postseason interceptions of his young career, as the San Francisco 49ers built a 20-10 lead.

But both of Mahomes’ passing touchdowns came in the late stages of the fourth quarter as he engineered the comeback. After connecting with Tyreek Hill on a crucial 3rd and 15 for 44 yards, he completed the first touchdown drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce.

When the Chiefs got the ball back, he led a 7-play, 65-yard drive that ended with a 5-yard touchdown pass to running back Damien Williams that gave Kansas City the lead for good.

Mahomes led double-digit comebacks in the previous two rounds of the playoffs, as well.

“It’s this team. We have heart,” Mahomes said. “That’s just, from Day 1, Coach (Andy Reid) pushed us to be the best people that we can be and we never give up. I think those guys around us, the leaders that we have on this team, they have that mindset that we’re never gonna give up. We’re gonna fight until the end.”
