Days after getting into a fiery crash during this year’s Daytona 500, Ryan Newman appears to be in good spirits.

Roush Fenway posted a picture Wednesday of Newman in a hospital gown, standing with his two daughters and smiling. The racing company also delivered an update, saying Newman continues to show “great improvement” after Monday’s accident.

The news is a positive development, given the initial concern over Newman’s crash. The driver’s car flipped and quickly caught fire during the final lap.

“The veteran driver is fully alert and walking around Halifax Medical Center,” Roush Fenway said in a statement. “True to his jovial nature, he has also been joking around with staff, friends and family while spending time playing with his two daughters.”

There have been no details publicly released over what injuries Newman suffered from the accident.
